Tenerife

Tenerife is a beautiful island, and with so many contrasting landscapes from the barren South to the lush north, then the volcanic landscape that awaits you in the mountains, not to mention the beautiful pine forests that surround the Volcano of Mount Teide.

At certain times of the year you can leave your resort in the south in baking sunshine to arrive at Mount Teide to find almost freezing temperatures, and snow!

Most people spend at least a few days exploring beyond their chosen resort. If you are hiring a car a trip round the island can be completed in one day although this doesn’t leave much time for sightseeing. Whether you are going from north to south or vice versa a pleasant route to take is by going on the old roads around the west coast of the island stopping along the way at the various attractions and handicraft shops then heading back by autopista at the end of the day. The complete journey from north to south by motorway takes up to one hour. The Dragon tree in Icod de Los Vinos is a must if you do plan on this trip. Being the oldest tree in the world, it is well worth a visit. Icod de los Vinos is also a very pretty place to stop for a lunch break. For those who don’t want the hassle of driving, there are many organised excursions around the island. These can be booked through your tour rep or, for the independent traveller, there are many excursion agencies displaying signs.
